The Mathura community in Adilabad district is vulnerable to dengue owing to the shoddy sanitation in its habitations. This was disclosed to The Hindu on Sunday by District Medical and Health Officer Rajeev Raju who was summing up about the incidence of dengue in the district.
Dr. Raju and his team of officials comprising of Deputy DMHO for Agency Vasanth Rao, District Malaria Officer Rathod Narender and Epidemiologist Ashok were on a visit to this Tanda in Indervelli mandal where there were a few positive cases of dengue. The village is inhabited by Mathura community families and also exhibited poor sanitation.
“Other villages where poor sanitation has resulted in infections are Suryanaik tanda in Indervelli and Koratikal in Neredigonda besides some localities in Adilabad town. People in Mathura tandas have their cattle living close to their homes,” the DMHO said pointing out the poor shape of things in the villages.
There are a total of 5 dengue positive cases but almost all of them are asymptomatic positives like the six in Andunaik tanda.
“We are continuously monitoring the situation, holding camps and shifting cases to RIMS Hospital Adilabad wherever the patient has fever for two days,” Dr. Raju said about the measures to control spread of dengue.
