NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old widow and her 27-year-old son were murdered at their house in
Dilshad Colony on Friday. The duo was killed by the youth's friend who had borrowed Rs 25,000 from the woman but could not pay her back.
The accused, Ankit (23), was arrested on Sunday evening and police are looking for two of his accomplices. He had also stolen the youth's
KTM motorbike.
DCP (
Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said that the bodies of Beena and her son Ravi were discovered on Saturday after a relative called police informing that their phones had been unreachable since Friday night. They had shifted to the house at B-Block in Dilshad Colony a month ago.
Police broke into the house and found Ravi lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom with several stab wounds on his abdomen. When cops entered the bedroom, they found blood dripping from the bed. They found Beena's body stuffed in the bed box with injuries on her wrist and a deep slit on the throat. The house was found ransacked. Cops said entry to the house was friendly.
Beena used to run a boutique in a rented house in Nand Nagri where Ravi had befriended Ankit. Ravi was a delivery boy with an-app based food delivery company and was pursuing studies from School of Open Learning.
Last year, Ankit had borrowed Rs 25,000 from Beena and promised to return it after a month, but kept delaying. On Friday, he called the woman and agreed to return the money.
Sources said that he reached the house with two of his friends and soon got into an argument with Beena. He attacked her with a machete and dumped her body in the bed box. Ankit even raised the volume of the music system to drown out any cries for help. The trio then waited for Ravi, who had gone for work. As soon as he entered the house, Ankit stabbed him several times in the abdomen and fled with the motorbike keys. Ravi dragged himself into the bathroom where he died later.
CCTV footage showed Ankit leaving the area and he was tracked down to his house in Nand Nagri. At first, he tried to mislead the cops, but later confessed to the murder. Police are yet to recover the murder weapon and the motorbike.
A case of murder has been registered and the bodies will be handed over to family members after autopsy on Monday.
