Surat PAAS leader Alpesh Kathiria arrested in sedition case

AHMEDABAD: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader from Surat and one of the closest aide of Hardik Patel, Alpesh Kathiria was arrested by the city crime branch immediately after he was released on bail in the case pertaining to unlawful assembly and obstructing police duty.

A senior crime branch official said that Kathiria was arrested in the sedition case of 2015 where in he along with five others including Hardik, Chirag Patel, Dinesh Bambhania, Ketan Patel and Amrish Patel -- were implicated as accused. They were booked under IPC Sections 121 (waging war against government), 124 (sedition), 153-A (promoting enmity between different communities) and 153-B (assertions prejudicial to national integrity).

Another PAAS leader from Surat, Dharmik Malviya said that Kathiria was asked to record his statement by Ahmedabad crime branch Police Inspector J S Gedam and later he was declared as arrested in the sedition case.

Malviya also said that a crime branch police inspector threatened Manoj Panara, a PAAS leader from Morbi, with dire consequences and abused other leaders also during their detention from Hardik’s house on SG road on Sunday morning.
