Thousands enjoyed a pirate festival’s booty of delights this weekend.

Organisers of the Caernarfon event, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, say it exceeded expectations and are aiming for a bigger and better one next year.

An estimated 3,000 people attended the town’s second pirate festival to enjoy swashbuckling fun including cannon and musket demonstrations, a battle in the Menai Strait , re-enactments, sword fights, barrel races and circus acts.

There were also a number of stalls around the square as well as a smugglers' food festival along the prom.

A spokeswoman for the festival said: “We have had a great weekend. There’s been about 3,000 people at the event which has exceeded our expectations.

“We are looking to hold another next year, which we want to be bigger and better.”

The event was organised with the help of Gwynedd county council , Geoff Harvey of the Anglesey Arms and Hwb Caernarfon.
