AGRA: The body of a soldier, Dalbir Singh (30) who was killed near the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district in a landmine blast on Saturday, is expected to arrive at his native Musepur village in Aligarh on late Sunday night. Dalbir was on a routine patrolling near the Gulab post when the explosion occurred. He was immediately shifted to an Army hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dalbir’s father, Bhupendra Singh, said he had received a call on Saturday around 6 pm informing him about his son’s demise. “We are all shattered to learn about his death. He was a very lively person and used to treat everyone with great respect,” said the distraught father.

Bhupendra said that Dalbir had returned to Kashmir on July 4 after spending a month with his family. “We never thought that was the last time we would be seeing him alive,” he said.

Dalbir had joined the Indian Army on 2011. He married in 2015. Dalbir’s elder brother, Satveer, who is posted with the rapid action force (RAF) in Chhattisgarh, has also reached the village for the last rites.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences to Dalbir’s family and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to them.
