The two companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) – 105 Battalion based in Coimbatore has evacuated hundreds of people marooned in flood-hit Palakkad during the last four days.

Braving odd weather, the 200 personnel from the battalion carried relief and rescue materials on their shoulders and trekked nearly 20 km to reach Alathur near Nemmeru in Palakkad district, said B. Jayakrishnan, Commandant of the 105 Battalion.

On their way to Alathur, the RPF personnel also restored a road connecting a bridge. An uprooted tree that blocked free flow water in a culvert was also removed.

Relief materials sponsored by the RAF were distributed to the displaced people in Alathur on Sunday.

Another batch of relief materials from RAF would be dispatched to Kerala from Coimbatore on Monday, RAF sources here said.
