From the day I started earning, I have been doing my bit for the society. I don’t believe in giving money to beggars, but I would rather give what is useful for them — like food. During the Chennai floods, I covered 18 areas in the city, individually.

Swarna S with the collected relief materials
Chennai:
I travelled by truck or cycle, depending on what was available. Knowing about my work, people from Kerala got in touch with me to mobilise and send relief materials to the state. Though I had begun on my own, I also began collecting relief materials, especially essential items through people by sending messages and through WhatsApp.
In the last one week, around 60 packs of relief materials have been sent. The items we collect are all new — from utensils to diapers and sanitary napkins and clothes.
They are being sent by trucks to Palakkad from where it is transported to other parts of the State like Cochin and Wayanad, with the help of the armed forces. I am also part of the group called ‘Do for Kerala’ and we share updates and requests through WhatsApp.
We are also passing on information to the Armed forces deployed to rescue people in the state, by sharing verified accounts of people stranded at spots.
