A conman promised a seat for his son in a Bengaluru medical college

The Cubbon Park police have registered a cheating case against a man from Delhi who allegedly duped a Haryana businessman of ₹21.5 lakh by promising a seat for his son in a reputed medical college in the city.

The complainant, Kishan Lal, who was in the city on August 13, handed over the cash to Bhupinder Singh at a cafe on M.G. Road after he was promised that his son was getting a seat.

However, the next day, when he visited the college, he realised that he had been duped. Lal found that he could no longer reach Singh on his cellphone, and finally filed a complaint with the police on August 16.

He claimed that Singh, who runs a consultancy firm in New Delhi, had offered him the chance to buy a medical seat for his son. Lal agreed to the terms and submitted all the required documents. He also gave him ₹1.5 lakh, which he was told was the processing fee.

After verifying the documents, Singh said he could get Lal’s son a medical seat in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences in Bengaluru. He instructed Lal to come to Bengaluru with ₹20 lakh, which he said was the tuition tee.

When the two met at M.G. Road on August 13, Singh collected ₹20 lakh and gave Lal a letter that claimed that his son had been allotted a seat in the college. He assured Lal that the college management would be contacting him soon and left.

The police have obtained the contact details of Singh and are trying to locate him.
