Except for occasional showers, rain stayed away for the second day in Kozhikode district on Saturday.
The water level in most of the rivers came down to relatively safer levels. Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) authorities say the water-level in the Kakkayam dam too is at a safer level and the villages nearby are out of the stressful situation.
Revenue squads deployed in flood-hit areas confirm that many of the affected areas are bouncing back to normalcy even as uncertainty prevails over the continuation of fair weather.
Power restored
Power supply has been restored in most affected areas though the KSEB is regulating supply in flooded areas on safety grounds, they add.
34 lives lost
Monsoon-related calamities have so far claimed as many as 34 lives in Kozhikode district alone, forcing 44,328 persons to relocate.
Out of the 34 victims, 13 lost their lives in various incidents after August 9.
Though the preliminary estimate has put the loss due to rain havoc so far at ₹500 crore, it is likely to go up with the completion of the field-level assessment by the Agriculture and Revenue Departments.
Ayurveda camps
Ayurveda doctors under the Ayush Department will organise special medical camps in various parts of the district from Sunday.
Efforts are on to enlist the support of various doctors’ associations in the field.

Following the District Collector’s directive, all government offices in the district will be functional on Sunday to coordinate relief activities.
Department heads have been given instructions to ensure the presence of sufficient staff to manage the activities.
