The Hindu photographers win award

The Hindu staff photographer K.V.S. Giri won first prize in the best news photographs’ category in State-level News Photographs’ Competition conducted by Telangana State Photo Journalists’ Association on the occasion of World Photography Day.

The second prize was bagged by K. Srinivas of Eenadu and third by Surya Sridhar of Telangana Today.

In the best photographs of culture and festivals category, the first prize went to Koneti Venkat of Namaste Telangana. G.N. Rao of The Hindu based in Khammam won consolation prize in the category.

A release from the association said the prizes would be presented shortly after an exhibition of photographs that are part of the competition. The exhibition would be open at Press Club, Basheerbagh, from Monday.

The winners were selected out of 140 entries by photo and freelance journalists. The jury comprised Telangana Today Editor K. Srinivas Reddy, head of photography department of JNTU College of Fine Arts S.K. Rehman and head of journalism department of Telugu University V. Sathi Reddy.

In another competition organised by the Telangana Photo Journalists’ Association, The Hindu photographer in Khammam G.N. Rao won the first prize. He won the award in the State festival category for his photo of Medaram Jatara. The award would be presented to the winners at a function at Ravindra Bharati on August 21.
