Woman dies at eye-care centre

A 70-year-old woman from Shadnagar died on Saturday allegedly after being administered anaesthesia for surgery at an eye-care centre.

The woman had earlier visited a Kanti Velugu eye-camp where she was suspected to be suffering cataract.

Chennama of Dattayipalli village had visited a camp in Shadnagar where cataract was detected. She was then referred to L.V. Prasad Eye Institute’s NATCO Eye-Centre at Kothur, where she developed breathing issues after anaesthesia was administered before surgery.

“She developed complications due to a breathing problem, like asthma. This was not disclosed to the doctors. She was being taken to another health facility for emergency treatment when she died en-route,” a spokesperson for the State Health Department said.
