HC dismisses promotion plea by inspectors

The Hyderabad High Court on Friday dismissed petitions filed by some police inspectors of Telangana, challenging the government’s move to give relaxation relating to “compulsory loopline” rule in promoting inspectors to DSPs.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice S.V. Bhatt passed the order.

Some police inspectors from Warangal and other districts moved the High Court stating that the government has earlier issued GOs making it mandatory for police officers to work in loopline before awarding promotions. The petitioners said that they had worked in loopline posts and were awaiting promotions. They said that the government recently made a move to bypass these GOs and prepared proposals to promote some inspectors to DSPs.

Government special pleader Sharath Kumar defended the government move stating that the proposal would not harm anybody’s promotional prospects.

The bench said that it cannot interfere in the matter.
