Greater Noida: Two criminals were shot at and a constable was injured in a shootout in which one of the criminals escaped on Thursday night. Police also raided a paying guest accommodation in Beta-1 and arrested its owner for giving shelter to the criminals. Two illegal pistols were also seized from him.
According to police, they got a tip-off that a few criminals were on the road for loot. Police spotted a Maruti Swife Dzire and asked the driver to stop. But, three criminals in the car fired at the police and tried to escape. The police retaliated in which Himanshu, a resident of Beta-1, was shot on leg along with Raja Salmani, a resident of Surajpur. Another man, Cheenu Sharma, escaped in the darkness. One constable, Rashid, was also shot on the hand who along with others was rushed to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida.

Azad Singh Tomar, SHO, Surajpur told TOI that the arrested criminals had allegedly taken an Uber driver hostage, robbed him and took away his Maruti Swift Dzire after booking a ride with him from Jagat Farm market to Sector 18 in Noida on Independence Day. Nadeem Ansari, the cab driver, reported the incident to the police later on the night of August 15 itself.

“They later robbed mobile phones from two civilians at Moser Baer and P3 Square same night,” said Tomar. Cops raided the paying guest accommodation where one of the criminals allegedly resides and arrested the owner Shiva and seized two illegal pistols.
