She's the greatest: Winx races into history with 26th straight win

Wonder mare Winx has won her 26th straight race to eclipse super sprinter Black Caviar and set a new Australian record for consecutive victories.

Winx’s record-breaking win came in the race renamed in her honour – the group 1 Winx Stakes (formerly the Warwick Stakes) over 1400m at Randwick.

With regular jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle, Winx ($1.24) jumped evenly from barrier five and settled at the back of the field before unleashing her trademark finishing burst to win by two-and-a-half lengths easing down from Invictus Prince ($150) in second and D'argento ($17) in third.

Black Caviar was never beaten whereas Winx, trained by Chris Waller, began her brilliant run on the Sunshine Coast at her 11th start after winning three of her first 10 races.

The seven-year-old Winx will now be aimed towards an unprecedented fourth Cox Plate win in a row in a campaign that could push her consecutive wins up to 30.
