Defunct Ice Skating Rink to be operation in six-seven months

The now defunct Ice Skating Rink at International Sports Stadium at Raipur in Dehradun is expected to restart in six to seven months. The authorities are taking help of experts from the some European countries in this regard. The Director of Dehradun International Arena Limited (DIAL) Ajay Pandey while addressing newsmen here on Friday said that rink once refurbished and equipped with equipments would be the best facility not in the country but also in the region. He informed that the cricket board of Afghanistan is interested to make Dehradun international stadium as its home ground and talks with them are in the final phase on the issue. It is pertinent to mention here that entire management of International cricket stadium of Raipur was handed over to the DIAL onMay 26 this year. Pandey also sounded optimistic on the organisation of Ranji Trophy, international and Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the near future in the ground. “The ground has got approval of the International Cricket Committee and everyone has appreciated the facilities, location and ground here. We are confident that we will have a busy calendar for the International stadium,’’ he said.

The Director of the DIAL also inaugurated ‘Doon Sports Club’ located near the south pavilion of the international stadium n the occasion. Pandey said that the company would open the membership for the club from August 18. The club has facilities like modern Gymnasium, spa, Swimming pool, Table tennis (TT) and Squash court, bowling arena and badminton court. Pandey added that one can opt from Platinum and Gold membership for club.

The onetime platinum club membership is Rs 5 lakh while in Gold club a fee of Rs 1.5 lakh would be charged for three years. Pandey said that the company is planning to distribute scholarships for the sportspersons under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
