Italian held at IGIA for carrying unauthorised sat phone

An Italian man was apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Friday for allegedly carrying an unauthorised satellite phone, a senior official said.

 The passenger was identified as L D Giorgi, who had a Italian passport, was apprehended by CISF personnel after the satellite phone was detected in his baggage. He was bound for Amsterdam, the official said.

The man was handed over to the Delhi Police, as carrying a satellite phone is against the law. Only defence and other authorised personnel are allowed to posses the communication gadget, the official  said. Yesterday, a South Korean national was apprehended at this airport for the same offence.

This is the fifth such incident in the last one month when a foreign national has been arrested for carrying a satellite phone by the CISF officials at the IGI airport.
