New Delhi, Dismissing reports of cancellation of Congress president Rahul Gandhi ‘s visit to London, the AICC on Saturday said the the trip is on as planned.
In a statement issued here on behalf of the AICC, long-time Congress associate Sam Pitroda said,’
A misinformation campaign is being launched and lies are being propagated about the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to London and interactions in Parliament.’ Terming the reports as ‘untrue’, he said, ‘Rahul’s London visit on as planned.’
The Congress associate said Mr Gandhi will have interactions in London at think tank, parliament, London school of economics and a variety of other institutions with political leaders, businessman, academicians and students.
‘Mr Gandhi will also interact with the Indian journalists association in London and will address a large public meeting of the Indian overseas Congress on August 25. In fact, the demand for interactions with Mr Gandhi by institutions and individuals is so high that even if he spends the whole week in London, he may not be able to make everyone happy,’ Mr Pitroda said.
He said his phone had been ringing all the time for the last one week requesting Mr Gandhi to speak at various events and organisations.
‘We are thankful to all those who gave shown an interest in meeting Mr Gandhi. I wish we could have accommodated more requests. However, in the limited time we have, it is humanely impossible to meet this huge demand ,’ Mr Pitroda said.
Mr Gandhi will embark on a visit to Germany and London from August 22 to 25 as part of the Congress party’s outreach to NRIs.
