Kerala floods: Two relief collection centres opened

Only unused items should be donated; no cash will be accepted

The District Administration in association with Rotary Club Manipal Hills, MIT Rotaract Club and Social Work Programme PSPH MAHE Manipal, will be collecting materials to be sent to rehabilitation centres in Kerala, that has been affected by massive rain and flood in the last few days.

A press release issued by the administration on Friday stated that the materials will be dispatched by Indian Coast Guard aircraft next week. Donors are expected to drop the items at the two flood relief collection centres – Rotary Hall near Manipal (Mannu Palla) Lake or Faculty Room, KMC College Office, Near Tiger Circle Water Fountain, behind Manipal Bus Stand.

No used goods

Used goods or clothes will not be accepted. No cash will be accepted. The items will be collected from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on August 18, 19 and 20.

Items required

Bedsheets, sleeping mats, blankets, nighties, lungis, bathing towels, undergarments and kids’ garments are some of the items required.

Packed items needed include rusk (not bread), biscuits (not cream biscuits), water (only 20-litre cans), rice, sugar, salt, tea/coffee power, pulses, packed provisions, ORS packets, electrolytes, water purifying chlorine tablets, Dettol, mosquito repellents/Odomos, antiseptic lotion, anti fungal powder, bleaching powder/lime, baby diapers, adult diapers, sanitary napkins, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet soap, washing soap, candles, and matchboxes.

Schoolkits for kids required include school bag, notebooks, pencil boxes and pens.
