CHENNAI: Leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly and DMK working president M K Stalin has demanded a CBI probe into the 6,000 crore Tangedco coal import scam.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Stalin said, "There has been a mega scam in the coal import by Tangedco (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation). High electricity prices have been pushed on the citizens. If a CBI probe is not ordered, we will move court for directions."

TOI on Wednesday reported about a Rs 6,000 crore scam in the import of coal from Indonesia by contractors exposed by NGO Arappor Iyakkam. The coal was imported when Natham Viswanathan was the electricity minister. It happened during the tenures of K Gnanadesikan IAS and M Saikumar IAS as the chairman and managing director of Tangedco - 2012 to 2014 and 2014 to 2018, respectively.

Stalin targeted Viswanathan and Gnanadesikan, alleging them of being the cause for the scam.
