Ujjain : Following annual tradition Mahakaleshwar procession is being organised in the holy Shravan month. City Congress has demanded that the procession route be extended for the benefit of larger population.
Congress president Vivek Yadav raised the issue in a press release. He said that city’s population is increasing with every passing day. As a result, the city’s boundary has been extending. Besides, thousands of devotees throng the city in Shravan.
So looking at the aspirations of citizens and devotees, the Congress demands that the procession route be extended. He said that currently procession follows the route of Gudari chouraha, Ramghat, Dani gate, Gopal Mandir before ending at Mahakaleshwar temple premises.
He asked for extension of the route to Mirza Naim Beg Marg, Telwada square, VD market, Koyla Fatak before returning to the Mahakal temple.
Vivek Yadav said that it would solve crowd management problem as people will be spread across elongated route.
Residents living at outskirts too will be able to view the procession, he added. He said that the Congress will organise awareness campaign to garner support from social and business organisations as well as residents for the demand.
