Case registered against 12 cops on court order

A Lucknow court has ordered registration of a murder case against 12 policemen for killing a retired army jawan, Jageshwar, in a fake police encounter in Kakori area on October 10, 2008.

Jageshwar, who served in the battalion of martyred Param Vir Chakra recipient Captain Manoj Pandey had retired from the service when he was killed in Kakori by a joint team of Sarojininagar and Manak Nagar police stations.

The slain jawan’s widow, Manju Devi, fought for ten years to get the court’s order for registration of a case against the erring cops.

The Lucknow court on Thursday ordered the filing of criminal cases under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against the 12 cops.

Manju Devi said that her husband had started driving truck after retirement from the army but his name was dragged in several criminal cases due to rivalry with neighbours.

She said that her husband was also made accused in a murder case after which the police shot him dead in a fake encounter in October 2008.

The cops against whom the FIR was registered are then SHO of Sarojininagar police station, Sadhuram, sub-inspectors Amit Tomar, Sachin Kumar and KP Singh, the then SHO of Manak Nagar police station Alam Ansari, constables Ashok Kumar, Jitendra Singh, Sunil Bishnoi, Shiv Sagar Tiwari, Kamlesh Bahadur Singh and Harischandra.
