They maintained a day long bandh to pay respects to him

Traders across the city maintained a day-long bandh to pay respects to the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday.

Businesses shut

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) stated that eight lakh traders in Delhi and about six crore across the country kept their businesses shut during the day.

This is said to be the first time that traders have observed a Bharat bandh suo-motu following the demise of a public figure.

In its press release, the CAIT said the organisation was formed based on Mr. Vajpayee’s recommendation.
