Punjab invites applications for scholarships

Chandigarh: Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Department has invited applications for awarding pre and post matric scholarships for the students with disabilities in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of empowerment of persons with disabilities (Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment), said Social Security and Women & Child Development Minister, Aruna Chaudhary. She said, the Pre-Matric scholarship for students with disabilities covers 9th and 10th standard students whose family income should not exceed `2.50 lakh annually. The last date for applying is September 30. The Post-Matric scholarship covers standard 11th to Master’s degree/diploma. In this case, the family income of the students should also not exceed `2.50 lakh annually and last date for applying is October 31, she added.

NIPER pays tribute to former PM

Chandigarh: As a mark of respect, two minute silence was observed to mourn the sad demise of India’s former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at NIPER at SAS. Nagar. NIPER Director, Prof. Raghuram Rao expressed the grief on the loss of a great son of India. All students and staff members of the NIPER assembled to pray for the peace of departed soul.

Film Summit 3.0 to be organised

Chandigarh: Indian Institute of Management at Rohtak will organise Film Summit 3.0 Indian on August 19. The third edition of the summit will provide a platform and facilitate the convergence of creative and business minds of the entertainment industry. The theme for this year will be “Every Moment matters”. The conclave will host prominent personalities from the film industry like Tanuj Garg who has held senior management positions in UTV, Viacom and Balaji Motions Pictures and has recently started his own production house Ellipsis Entertainment Media LLP; Advaita Kala, a screenwriter associated with popular movies like Kahaani and Aditya Kumar, the talented actor, popularly known as Perpendicular from the movie Gangs of Wasseypur amongst others.

PSPCL launches awareness drive

Patiala: Baldev Singh Sran CMD PSPCL unfurled the National Flag on the 72th Independence Day celebrations here. On the occasion, he said that  under  the leadership and guidance of Capt. Amarinder Singh, Punjab CM and Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Power Minister, PSPCL had launched various consumer friendly schemes i.e VDS, One Time Settlement scheme, Paani Bachao, Paise Kamao,special camps for transfer of ownership of AP consumers etc. in the state. PSPCL also launched a significant drive regarding  spreading of awareness about various digital bill payment methods. The CMD informed that under this awareness campaign, an informative leaflet containing salient features  of available digital payment modes, charges of digital transactions and other important details will be distributed to electricity  consumers of the state  by attaching these leaflets with each and every electricity bills.

MHA notification brings relief for cash van owners

Mohali: Fresh notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has brought a relief to the protesting Cash Vans Owners Association of Punjab. The association members celebrated Independence Day stating it to be a moment to rejoice after they have been representing the case with higher authorities in the state and Centre since last few months. Cash van owners had in July held a protest rally against the stringent guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), calling the same discriminatory in nature and also blaming the banks in misinterpreting these guidelines. The new guidelines have brought cash vans under the ambit of Private Securities Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005, and now the banks and RBI will have to follow the same.

SJVN observing swachhta pakhwada

Shimla: SJVN is observing swachhta pakhwada from August 16 to 31 at all its offices and projects. The Pakhwara activities commenced on Thursday  with administration of Swachhta pledge by Nand Lal Sharma, chairman & managing director to all the employees at Corporate Office, Shimla. He said, observance of swachhta pakhwada is an initiative of the Prime Minister to promote Swachh Bharat Mission and mobilise people’s participation to achieve total sanitation and cleanliness in India. He emphasised that with the commitment of every individual, this target is achievable.

GNDU VC completes one year in office

Amritsar: Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, who joined Guru Nanak Dev University last year as the Vice Chancellor was congratulated by the senators, syndics and the University fraternity for multi-faced achievements.  During the last year, GNDU has been granted “Category One” status, the only university to get this elite status in the region of Punjab and Chandigarh. GNDU is the winners of both North Zone and National Inter-University Youth Festivals during this year. With the highest score in sports performance of more than one lakh, GNDU is most likely to be awarded the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy for overall excellence in sports for this year, said a spokesman.

Canara Bank celebrates Independence Day

‘Independence Day’ with Jagjit Singh, general manager, hoisting the national flag.  Referring to the Bank’s contribution in building nation, he said that important work is being done by the bank for the upliftment of society under its corporate social responsibility.  A cultural program was organised by the Bank on this occasion including patriotic songs, short play, story, dance, etc.

PSTCL celebrates Independence day

Patiala: PSTCL celebrated 72th Independence Day with enthusiasm and zeal at SLDC complex (Ablowal), here. A.Venu Prasad, Principal Secretary Power GOP and CMD PSTCL unfurled National Flag during the celebrations.  A.Venu Prasad said that the real tribute to the freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for freedom of India, would be to perform our duties honestly and with utmost sincerity. PSPCL & PSTCL have been playing an energetic   role in the overall development of the state. Both the corporations  have achieved a number of miles stones in distribution, generation and transmission sectors, he said.

Punjab Police players to be medal hopefuls

Chandigarh: In the Asian Games to be held from August 18 in Jakarta (Indonesia), 20 officers/jawaans of Punjab Police would represent India and showcase their skill in various sports. These 19 players and one coach are expected to perform to their full potential in 10 sports events. Extending his best wishes to all the players, the DGP Suresh Arora expressed hope of good performance from the players and said that it is a matter of great pride and elation for Punjab Police that its officers/jawaans are taking part in the biggest sporting extravaganza of the Asian continent.

Haryana frames cadre change policy

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has framed Cadre Change Policy for District Cadre Teachers that is, PRT, JBT, HT Teachers and Classical and Vernacular (C&V) Teachers working on regular basis in Elementary Education Department. Education Minister, Ram

Bilas Sharma said that only District Cadre Teachers who are working on regular basis in Elementary Education Department are eligible to be considered for transfer under this policy.

The applicant teacher must have completed three years of regular service as ‘Teacher’ under School Education Department of the State Government.

All those teachers who have been recruited specifically against Mewat cadre would not be transferred out of Mewat. However, others teachers, though working in Mewat are eligible to be considered for transfer under this policy. The applicant teacher would mention maximum three districts of his or her choice on the MIS portal of the department, he added.
