Kerala floods: Thiruvananthapuram administration collects 54 loads of relief material in two days

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The district administration of Thiruvananthapuram collected 54 loads of relief material until Friday evening. The officials have been transporting these materials by truck, mini buses and containers to Alleppey, Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta for the past two days.
The three collection centres opened by the district administration have been witnessing a heavy inflow of people coming with huge cartons filled with relief materials.

District collector K Vasuki had appealed to the public to bring in relief materials suitable for air drop in flood-affected areas. The super markets in the city have been experiencing huge crowd queuing up to purchase materials for relief camps in various parts of the state. Private firms, residents associations have also been organising campaigns to purchase relief materials to be handed over to the collection centres.

The collection centres are functioning at Priyadarshini hall, Kottakkakom, SMV Higher Secondary School, Thampanoor and Cotton hill Girls' Higher Secondary School,Vazhuthacaud.

The district administration has sent 22 loads of materials to Pathanamthitta in the past two days of which 17 loads were sent to Alleppey and 10 were sent to Kottayam. Idukki received 4 loads of relief materials. One load from collection centre was transported to the technical area for air drop.

The collection centres will be functional on Sunday as well. One more collection centre has started functioning at panchayat directorate at public office building. Materials have been transported from this centre to relief camps functioning in Thazhakara and Mannar gram panchayats in Alleppey.
