Groundnut scam: Gujarat govt announces probe panel

more-in

In a bid to deflect attention from the Opposition Congress’s sustained campaign against alleged financial irregularities and malpractices in purchase of groundnuts at MSP, the Gujarat government on Saturday announced a Commission of Inquiry to probe four incidents of fire which occurred at warehouses where the groundnut stock was stored.

A former judge of the Gujarat High Court, Justice H.K. Rathod, will probe the incidents of fire which occurred at Gondal, Shapar, Hapa and Gandhidham, where groundnut stock worth ₹50 crore was gutted. The Opposition said that fires were caused to conceal adulteration.
