Two arrested over alleged murder of bikie boss Mick Hawi

A major police operation is currently under way across Sydney, with two men arrested so far over the February killing of former Comancheros boss Mahmoud 'Mick' Hawi.

Hawi died after being shot several times in a daylight execution, while sitting in a car park outside a Fitness First gym in Rockdale, on February 15.

Police arrested two men in Bexley on Friday afternoon. According to AAP, the pair were arrested upon leaving a hairdresser in the southern Sydney suburb.

The two men were on Friday night assisting police with their inquiries at St George police station.

It is understood charges are expected to be laid.

The arrests follow an operation earlier this month in which six properties in Sydney's south-west were raided by police looking for evidence relating to Hawi's death.

Police said investigators had located vehicles of interest, which would be seized for forensic examination.

Hawi, the former national president of the Comanchero motorcycle club, was imprisoned over the 2009 bashing death of Hell's Angels associate Anthony Zervas in a wild brawl at Sydney Airport.

He was shot multiple times as he sat in his luxury car in a Rockdale car park and died hours later in hospital.

At the time, Commander of State Crime Command Assistant Commissioner Mal Lanyon described the shooting as "a planned and targeted attack, completely without regard to human life".
