Punjab police conducts workshop to prevent cyber security threats

To prevent cyber crime threats on real time basis, the Punjab Police on Thursday organized a workshop in collaboration with the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre New Delhi (NCIIPC), at Punjab police headquarters in Chandigarh Sector 9.

The first of its kind workshop was organized by State police’s Information Technology and Telecommunications (IT&T) wing to sensitize the senior police officers about vulnerable issues of cyber crime, hacking, cyber threats and auditing, said an official spokesperson of the State police. Spokesperson said that apart from this, the cyber experts have also put light on how to conduct information security audits and protect the systems, networks and databases from unauthorized access, unusual malicious activities and cyber incidents.

Experts have sensitized the officers about hacking of systems and networks and how to secure against such attacks. “Lots of questions and queries of the participants were addressed on the spot. They have also created awareness about the pitfalls and vulnerabilities of the critical information infrastructure,” said the spokesperson.

Spokesperson informed that the range Inspector Generals (IGs), Deputy IGs, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and the Commissioners of Police have attended the workshop through video conferencing. Similar workshops would be held for district level officers in future.

Senior police officers, including DGP (Administration) MK Tiwari, DGP (Provisioning, Modernization and IT&T) VK Bhawra, all Additional DGPs, IGPs, among others were present.
