Moderate rainfall in the last three or four days has considerably brought down the temperature in Kalaburagi district. The average rainfall that the district received in the 24 hours ended 8.30 a.m. on Thursday was 30.3 mm as compared to the normal 6 mm rainfall for the day. Madana Hipparaga hobli in Aland taluk received the highest average rainfall with 66.8 mm followed by Aland (57.5 mm), Atanur in Afzalpur taluk (56.6 mm) and Nimbarga in Aland taluk (53.8 mm).

With 53.5 mm rainfall in Kalaburagi city against the 39.1 mm average rainfall of Kalaburagi hobli, low-lying areas remained inundated. The continued showers throughout Thursday hit traffic movement. People, particularly schoolchildren and those riding motorbikes and driving vehicles, were found struggling to move about on the city roads.

The average rainfall that the district received in July stood at 70 mm against the normal average of 152 mm for the same period. The cumulative average rainfall in the first 15 days of August stood at 65 mm as compared to the normal average of 81 mm for the period. The monsoon gaining momentum in August contributed to the cumulative average rainfall of 399 mm between January 1 and August 15, against the normal of 417 mm for the period.

The rainfall dropped the maximum temperature by almost 4 degrees in the last six days in the district, from 34.60 degrees Celsius on Saturday last to 31 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
