Heavy rainfall likely in parts of Maharashtra

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the ongoing intense rainfall activity over Kerala, Karnataka and ghat areas of Tamil Nadu is likely to reduce from August 17. The heavy rainfall in south India caused heavy loss of life and property.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a heavy rainfall warming in parts of Maharashtra for the next 24 hours due to a depression over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha, after which the depression will weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area. 

The IMD has mentioned that squally winds are forecasted with speed reaching 35 to 45 km per hour gusting to 55 km per hour over south Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, central Maharashtra, Konkan, Karnataka and Vidarbha in these 24 hours.

Till August 18, rough to very rough sea conditions are likely to prevail over west-central and southwest Arabian Sea. The IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea over these areas.

Till August 20, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Chhattisgarh and heavy rain at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh and north Konkan.

The Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala and active over Odisha, madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. It has been subdued over Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan and Saurashtra and Kutch.

For Pune city, the IMD has predicted one or two spells of rainfall in the coming few days with cloudy weather and moderate temperature.
