Back in the day, The Buggies were a teenage family band performing before Fall River Celebrates crowds. Now, as adults, the Fall River-rooted band is still rocking with a new album, a recently added drummer and plenty of gigs around the region.

Brothers Joe “Joey Bones” Pereira (lead singer and guitar) and Jake Pereira (bass) and drummer Rob Duclos are chalking up some noteworthy gigs including The Bitter End in New York, the Hard Rock Café in Boston and more recently, McGann’s Irish Pub in Boston.

Their recently released album, “Fired Up,” is also garnering new fans from across the globe, they said.

The Buggies started back in 2005 when the Pereira brothers were students at St. Michael’s School in Fall River. Joe, 13, Jake, 11 and the original drummer — their younger brother, Adam, 10 — were in a talent show at the school. Almost immediately after the school talent show, they started playing out locally.

All three brothers learned piano, then drums, bass and guitar at home and they started jamming together even before they were teens. “We learned how to play our instruments with each other,” said Jake.

“We started playing Beatles and Kiss covers,” said Joe. “The first song we played out was ‘Calling Dr. Love,’ by Kiss at 13 years old and (AC/DC’s) ‘You Shook Me All Night Long.’”

Their brother, Adam, left the band to pursue a career as a teacher. Duclos, a friend of the Pereiras’ since they were at St. Michael’s School, stepped into the band about a year ago. Before that, he was in a thrash metal band.

Joe wrote the songs for the band’s album and Jake produced it. Their influences range from The Misfits to Pearl Jam and Nirvana.

Their parents, Joe and Laurie, have been supportive since they were kids, they said. The name of the band came about from their father’s nickname for the kids, “The Buggies.”
