HISAR: While inaugurating Haryana’s first airport at Hisar on the 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced that flights would start after two months. He said six flights in a week would be started by private aviation company Pinnacle Airlines from Hisar to Delhi and Chandigarh.

The CM said the passengers would be charged Rs 1,450 per ticket whereas Rs 2,800 to 3,000 would be given as viability gap funding (VGF) by the Haryana government.

The CM said in the second and third phase, the cargo terminal, MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), flying club, civil aviation university and aero defence university would also be opened. For the second phase, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Haryana civil aviation department and Spice Jet was also signed by Haryana principal secretary (civil aviation) Devendra Singh and Spice Jet chief managing director Ajai Singh in the presence of the CM.

Khattar said 3,600 acres land of state livestock farm was also transferred for the second and third phases of the Hisar airport project to the state civil aviation department. Additional chief secretary, animal husbandry and dairy department Sunil Gulati handed over the necessary documents to the principal secretary (civil aviation) in the presence of CM, Haryana finance minister Captain Abhimanyu, state BJP chief Subhash Barala and Haryana Public Enterprises chairman Dr Kamal Gupta.

Haryana CM said the length of runways at Pinjore, Karnal, Bachhod and Bhiwani would also be extended up to 5,000 feet. The length of the runway in Hisar will be 9,000 feet, which is required for take-off and landing of international flights.

The CM informed that to reduced air traffic pressure at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, the Hisar airport would be most suitable in the form of an alternative airport. For that purpose, the process was also on to connect Delhi and Hisar with high speed rail and controlled expressway, he said.
