The 2018 high school football season officially kicked off Friday with the eight area teams beginning their campaigns with their first practice sessions.

Teams begin the season with three days of conditioning (Friday, Saturday and Monday) that consists of a two-hour maximum session.

Day 4 and Day 5 practices can have limited contact and the session can run two-and-a-half hours long, according to MIAA guidelines.

Full-contact practices can begin Thursday, Aug. 23 with a maximum session of two-and-a-half hours.

Teams begin the regular season the weekend of Sept. 7.

All other sports will begin their tryouts/practices on Thursday, Aug. 23.
