FALL RIVER – A second-floor kitchen fire caused approximately $15,000 worth of damage Thursday afternoon in the Flint area, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire at 57 Tremont St. with three engines and two ladder trucks, Deputy Fire Chief Roger St. Martin said.

Upon arrival, the tenant had extinguished a majority of the fire, which firefighters completed, he said. No one was injured.

The family was cooking and officials attributed cause of the fire to a stove malfunction, St. Martin said.

Damage was confined to the kitchen cabinets and general area. All occupants safely evacuated the fire called in about 3:30 p.m.

Initial fire crews arrived five minutes later and the last ones cleared the scene by 5 p.m., St. Martin reported.
