Accused stabbed them with spade; woman’s son also sustained injuries

A 48-year old man was arrested for murdering his sister-in law and her nephew by stabbing them with a kitchen knife and a spade in central Delhi’s Paharganj on Thursday morning. The deceased woman’s son also sustained injuries in the attack.

The accused, identified as Rajkumar alias Raju, was a known criminal in the area earlier. Deceased Kaushalaya (55) lived in Kaseru Walan in Paharganj with her mother-in-law, Rajkumar and three sons. Her nephew Purroshotam (30) had come to visit the family and was staying with them.

Frequent fights

Rajkumar often fought with Kaushalaya over money and he would also taunt her for not taking care of the children following his brother’s demise. The accused would also doubt her character and pick fights with her.

He had a fight with Kaushalaya even on Wednesday evening. Purroshotam intervened and slapped Rajkumar, after which he left the house.

He returned later in the night, and attacked Kaushalaya and Purroshotam, who were sleeping on the floor, with a spade.

He then went to the second floor of the building where his nephew Rohit was sleeping. He stabbed him multiple times with a kitchen knife and fled the house.

The police received a call regarding two persons lying in a pool of blood inside a house in Paharganj. They were rushed to the hospital where Purroshotam was declared dead on arrival and Kaushalaya succumbed to her injuries. Rohit is undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

A case of murder was registered and an investigation was taken up. The accused was later arrested from the same locality.
