Huawei confirms Kirin 980 7nm processor to power Huawei Mate 20 Pro

NEW DELHI: Last week a leak surfaced online suggesting that the yet-to-launch Huawei Mate 20 Pro smartphone will be powered by Kirin 980 processor. Now, the company has almost confirmed that Huawei Mate 20 Pro will pack the company’s latest Kirin 980 processor.

According to a report by a South African publication, the Mate 20 series of devices are expected to be powered by company’s flagship processor Kirin 980. The new chipset will be unveiled at technology trade show IFA 2018, in Berlin. The company claims that the Kirin 980 processor will come with an octa-core CPU in which four cores will be of Cortex A77 and four cores will be of Cortex A55.


It will be the first 7nm chipset to launch in the market. It is expected that the 7nm manufacturing process will improve the speed of the device by 20%. Along with this, it will also make the chipset power efficient and it will consume 40% less power when compared to the 10nm processors.


The Huawei Kirin 980 will also come with AI support and will offer enhanced AI performance. It is expected that the Huawei Mate 20 will launch sometime in October. It is also expected that the company is planning to incorporate a big battery in the device.


It is also said that the chipset come with Mali-G72 MP24 GPU. This GPU is said to be more powerful and 1.5 times faster when compared to Adreno 630 GPU. The Adreno 630 GPU is used by chipset maker Qualcomm for its high-end processors such as the Snapdragon 845.


The company has already shared invites for its event on August 31 in Berlin. At the event the company is expected to launch Kirin 980.
