Ravenshaw student alleges ragging

A student of the Ravenshaw University on Thursday lodged a complaint with police alleging ragging by his seniors. The victim was identified as Suryakant Mohapatra.

Suryakant, a second year Sanskrit student, in his complaint with the Malgodown police alleged that he was assaulted by a group of seniors of the MBA Department in his hostel.

Sources said Suryakant had posted a few comments on Facebook message by one of his seniors that was in support of a particular political party. This irked the senior who, accompanied by his friends, barged into Suryankant’s room on Wednesday night and thrashed him.

Following the incident, the victim informed the hostel warden and lodged the police complaint alleging ragging by the seniors.

“They abused and thrashed me and forced me to delete my post on social media. Not only that, they also threatened to kill me,” Suryakant said.

Meanwhile, the medical examination of Suryakant is completed and investigation is underway. However, the university authorities and police were yet to comment on the matter.
