Pixel 3, 3XL may launch alongside this new device made by Google
Earlier this year we saw OEMs launch ‘Smart Displays’ running Google Assistant. These were pitched up against the likes of Amazon Echo Show. But it looks like a more authentic competitor is under works. According to a new report Google may launch its ‘Made by Google’ device with a smart display, running its own assistant later this year.

According to Nikkei, Google will be launching its own smart speaker sporting a screen and plans to ship around 3 million units in the first batch. As reported by 9to5 Google, the device could be named as Pixel Slate and Screen. Some of the abilities it is likely to include voice commands, playing YouTube among others. Taiwan’s Pegatron will be manufacturing the device.

Although nothing more was revealed about the product, based on recent rumours the device is said to feature a front-facing camera with two microphones. It may also have a 10-inch display and a standalone battery so you won’t have to connect it with a wire all the time.

The report adds that Google is already working with Quanta to launch a new tablet later this year. The manufacturer is already responsible for making the Pixel C and the Pixel Book. The rumoured ‘tablet’ may also be the convertible Chrome OS device.

Talking about smart speakers, Samsung recently joined the bandwagon by introducing its first ever smart speaker powered by Bixby assistant. The device called Samsung Galaxy Home has a design similar to that of Apple HomePod but with a wider lower half along with three spiked stands. It has a fabric covered design with a flat top that also has audio control buttons to control the music playback.

The entire package has six inbuilt speakers and subwoofer, all powered by Samsung’s audio accessory partner AKG. The Galaxy Home is also said to include as many as eight far-field microphones to recognise voice commands including ‘Hi Bixby’.
