Tricity marches with independence

CHANDIGARH: UT administrator V P Singh Badnore in his Independence Day speech once again laid stress on coordination and cooperation between Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali, which holds the key to development of the Tricity region. He further lauded the efforts of UT administration for working towards the welfare of city residents while giving a speech at Sector 17 parade ground, Chandigarh.


The issue of enhanced coordination was earlier raised by Badnore in great detail at the TOI event held on July 10, which was attended Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, his Haryana counterpart, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Pramod Kumar, a social scientist.

Badnore in his speech maintained that UT administration is committed towards the regional growth and maintenance of law and order. With an aim to improve coordination among the three regions of Tricity and enhance exchange of critical information related to day-today policing, zonal integrated police net will be established, said Badnore. He added that cyber cell of the UT Police is also going to be modernised with latest equipment.

Badnore further shared his plan of setting up of a bird park at Smriti Van near Sukhna Lake. The forest department will create a micro habitat at Smriti Van to attract birds and hence develop the area as a tourist attraction.

He also shared the details of progress made by Chandigarh in achieving target of 50 MW set by 2022 under the Model Solar City Programme. A total aggregate capacity of 21.51 MWp grid tied rooftop solar plants at 497 sites have been installed and commissioned in Chandigarh including private sectors. A 15 MW solar power plant is being planned at MC Water Works, Sector 39, which is going to be one of the largest solar rooftop plants of the region.
