A 28-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband in south-west Delhi’s Rajkori village on Thursday afternoon after a drunken brawl, the police said. The accused has been arrested.
The PCR received a call around 1 p.m. about a woman who had been shot at by her husband in Rajkori village in Vasant Kunj. The police rushed to the spot and found a woman lying in a pool of blood on the floor of a house.
She was rushed to Indian Spinal Injuries Centre where doctors declared her brought dead. The body was then shifted to AIIMS for a post-mortem.
“We have arrested Anil Kumar [33], the husband of deceased Gunjan from the house. The family belongs to Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh. He works as a security guard with a private firm. He returned from work early on Thursday morning.
Drunken brawl
The couple had a fight as he had come home drunk. He left home, consumed more alcohol and came back in the afternoon. The couple had a fight again.
The husband opened fire at the woman from his double-barrelled licenced gun,” said DCP (South West) Devendra Arya.
Mr. Arya said that the woman had sustained one bullet injury at her chest and collapsed on the spot.
Landlord called police
The landlord, who also stays in the same building, rushed downstairs hearing the gunshot. He informed police about the incident. The husband was found sitting in the room near the body. The couple has three children, who were at school during the incident.
The police said that the accused was so drunk that he was not even aware that he had killed his wife.
“A case has been registered at Vasant Kunj (South) police station under IPC Section 302 [murder]. The accused has been sent to judicial custody. The family members have been informed about the incident,” said Mr. Arya.
