Unfazed by rain, M’bhanj holds I-Day

In spite of intermittent rain, the nation’s 72-nd Independence Day was observed with fervour in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district.

While the main function was held here at Baripada by the district administration, the sub-divisional headquarters towns, the block headquarters towns and even villages also observed the day with much enthusiasm.

At the district level function here State Panchayati Raj Minister Pradeep Maharathy was the chief guest. It was presided over by the district Collector.

Maharathy, in his speech, exhorted the people to work towards the realisation of the dreams of the freedom fighters.

Various programmes like blood donation, distribution of fruits/biscuits, Kavi Sammelan, cycling, football/volleyball matches, art/music/patriotic song competitions, quiz/elocution/essay/GK contests, Yogasan, besides plantations and cleanliness drives were held.

Local units of BJD, BJP, Congress, JMM and different youth clubs also organised flag hoisting ceremonies at their offices on Wednesday.
