I am part of Mandaveli Raja Street Welfare Association. I was part of the group that set the ball rolling to segregate and compost in the area. Starting with the basics almost four years ago, we began educating people to first throw the garbage into the bin, says Ganga Sridhar

Ganga Sridhar
Chennai:
Soon, after meeting other residents’ welfare associations nearby like the one in Kalyan Nagar, I tried to galvanise a movement where residents segregated and composted their waste. I won’t claim major success, but I can say I have been successful in getting all the residents in my building and at least 30 per cent of the residents in the area into it.
I am also part of the Sustainable Waste Management People’s Forum where we conduct workshops for the budding welfare associations in composting and source segregation. In the recently held Kuppai Thiruvizha, I was part of the workshop on composting held in Mylapore and Perambur.
As part of the initiative by the forum, I have also addressed students in PS Senior Secondary School. I am a full-time employee at a software company, and I take time out to create awareness.
