Discharged after first aid; two FIRs have been registered

Four men sustained injuries after two groups from different communities clashed in Vishwas Nagar in Shahdara on Wednesday evening, the police said on Thursday.

The police said two men on a bike thrashed a passer-by, who had raised objections as their bike brushed past him, around 7.30 p.m. They had an argument after which the passer-by called his friends and thrashed the men on the bike.

The PCR received a call, after which the police rushed to the spot. The injured were taken to the hospital.

“We have identified several people involved in the clash. They will be arrested soon. We have registered two separate FIRs based on the complaints of both the groups. The injured were discharged after first aid,” said DCP (Shahadra) Meghna Yadav.

The police have, however, refused to reveal the identity of the injured, citing it was a sensitive matter.

“Based on the compliant of one party, we have registered a case under IPC Sections 308 [attempt to commit culpable homicide] and 323 [voluntarily causing hurt]. A case under IPC Sections 323 and 341 [wrongful restraint] has also been filed on complaint by the other party,” Ms. Yadav said.

‘No communal angle’

Ms. Yadav also said that miscreants had tried to fuel the issue by terming it communal, but during detailed inquiry no such angle was found. She said it was a fight between two groups over a petty issue. Ms. Yadav also said that no rapid action force was deployed in the area.

“The force was deployed in Farsh Bazar on Thursday due to the ongoing sealing drive,” she said.
