EIA report shows a slightly larger-than-expected weekly rise in U.S. natural-gas supplies

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Thursday that domestic supplies of natural gas rose by 33 billion cubic feet for the week ended August 10. Analysts polled by S&P Global Platts had forecast a climb of 30 billion cubic feet. Total stocks now stand at 2.387 trillion cubic feet, down 687 billion cubic feet from a year ago, and 595 billion below the five-year average, the government said. September natural gas NGU18, -0.88% fell by 3.5 cents, or 1.2%, to $2.906 per million British thermal units, down from $2.931 before the supply data.
