A British Airways flight (BA 35), operating on the London-Chennai sector on August 14/15 (Tuesday/Wednesday), was diverted to Ankara, Turkey, after a passenger experienced a medical emergency.
The incident occurred when the twin-engine aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 (G-ZBJJ), was over five hours into its approximately 9 hour 30 minute flight (8,242 km) and in Turkish airspace. The crew then diverted and the plane landed at the Turkish capital.
Confirming the incident, an airline spokesperson said that a woman passenger had become unwell and needed immediate medical attention. She declined to comment on the nature of the illness.
The flight later landed in Chennai at 6.44 a.m. against its scheduled arrival time of 4 a.m.
The flight to London (BA 36) left at 8.48 a.m.
