Share market update: Infosys, TCS keep Nifty IT index in the green

NEW DELHI: IT stocks Mindtree (up 3.92 per cent), Infosys (up 1.31 per cent), KPIT Technologies (up 0.78 per cent), Tata Elxsi (up 0.74 per cent) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (up 0.39 per cent) were up in afternoon trade on Thursday, keeping the sectoral index in the green.
However, losses in Wipro (down 1.51 per cent), Infibeam Avenues (down 0.53 per cent) and HCL Technologies (down 0.11 per cent) restricted the gains for the index.
The Nifty IT index was trading 0.42 per cent up at 15,072 around 12:20 pm.
Shares of Oracle Financial Services Software (up 0.05 per cent) and Tech Mahindra (down 0.01 per cent) were nearly flat around that time.
Equity market was dull amid weak global cues as a political crisis in Turkey and US-China trade war woes weighed on investor sentiment.
An unabated fall of the Indian rupee and sustained capital outflow in the wake of a continuous rise of US dollar also hit the market.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 9 points at 11,426, while the BSE Sensex was 32 points down at 37,820.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 27 were trading in the green, while 23 were in the red.
GAIL (India), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Axis Bank and Grasim Industries were among the top gainers, while Kotak Mahindra Bank, Vedanta, Ultratech Cement, Hindalco Industries and Indiabulls Housing Finance were among the top losers in the Nifty pack of stocks.
