Of late, Barcelona has witnessed enough of rowdy tourists disrupting the city with locals complaining of raucous holidaymakers creating nuisances in the city.
The tourists are accused of urinating in public, being noisy late into the night and leaving drug paraphernalia in children’s playgrounds. Furious residents are now demanding quick action for preventing further damage being done to the Catalonian capital.
Residents are now blaming Left wing mayor Ada Colau for allowing ‘over-tourism’ to damage Barcelona and said that a council-appointed expert should take responsibility for the city’s security.
The head of the Left-wing ERC in the city council Alfred Bosch has claimed that the Spanish city is in danger of becoming “the drug capital of Europe.”
Further aggression was caught on camera when men armed with knives and sticks were filmed brawling.
“People cannot rest,” said Manel Martinez, vice-president of the Barceloneta Neighbours’ Association. “Many residents are leaving the barrio – people who were born here – because they cannot go on living like this.”
Last week, a popular Barcelona market closed its doors to tourists to prevent over-crowding and help the market run smoothly.
Last month, a rule was passed that tourists would be fined if they walked around topless, drank in the street or jumped from balconies into swimming pools in Mallorca.
Also in the list of banned activities is having sex on the street or carrying out sex acts in public.
