The Fall River Public Library will continue its popular Breaker Space program through the summer. The next event is on Aug. 30 from 2-5 p.m. This monthly tech take-apart program for all ages could also be called be called toy take-a-part; break and make; appliance autopsy; or deconstruction station. Whatever you call it, it’s a fun way for kids and teens (and adults) to learn how things work, building STEM skills through hands-on practice. For more information, call the library at 508-324-2700.

The Summer Reading Program is almost at an end.

Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m., Jungle Jim will present his “Libraries Rock the '80s” Show. “Jungle Jim’s tubular balloon magic show combined with comedy, improv and rad elements from 1980s classics makes this one righteous show you won’t want to miss!” Big hair optional.

Aug. 22 at 1 p.m., join us for a Lego Day with building fun. Finally, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m., join the Kids on the Block for a 30-minute puppet show including music and activities.

Don’t miss out on our other ongoing programs: Toddler Story Time on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., and Songs and Stories with Miss Lisa on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. These programs are free and open to the public.

The Swansea Free Public Library has several events planned as summer winds down.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21st, the Swansea Free Public Library welcomes the RI Bucket Drummers in a special end of summer appearance that will take place at 1 p.m. on the front lawn of the library. Join us for an incredible performance. Learn different rhythms and beats and join in a jam session. Fun for all ages. This end of summer reading event is free and open to the public.

Official End of Summer at the Library

The library says goodbye to summer on Saturday, Aug. 25 with the fourth annual SwanCon. This mini comic con takes place from 12-4 p.m. at the Swansea Community Center located at 260 Ocean Grove Ave. This event is free and open for fans of all ages. A full schedule of activities is planned. Vendors and guest artists will be on hand along with The 501st Legion Storm Troopers. Included in the day’s events will be Superhero Bingo for children (win candy prizes), an artist’s alley, a superhero costume contest (prizes for winners), superhero crafts and an exhibit of graphic novels, games and movies will be on display. Contest prizes include gift certificates from Newbury Comics and others. Special con buttons will be available for sale along with tasty treats. Summer readers please bring your completed summer bingo sheets to the Comic Con.

Every Monday night in August, the library will host a music appreciation program for adults. Join Music Masters Studio as they share different music genres each week. Listen to music from different artists, albums and songs. The program takes place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Bring your reading log sheets for beads and also book bingo sheets to the library or at SwanCon. There is still time to get reading tags and beads.

Tiverton Public Library is located at 34 Roosevelt Ave. New hours for Tiverton libraries are: Monday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Union Public Library will be open Tuesdays only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Tiverton Public Library offers one-on-one computer skills help sessions with technology librarian, Sam Simas. These meetings are designed to teach you how to use computers, phones, and tablets to connect with information and library services. Topics for these sessions can cover downloading and using eBooks and audiobooks, researching with library databases, navigating social media sites, understanding internet safety and security, and using your phone, tablet, laptop, or ereader.   Children ages 3-6 are invited to story time at Union Public Library, 3832 Main Road in Tiverton on Tuesdays, Aug.  21 and 28 from at 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. It's a free, fun program where children can enjoy a story and age appropriate activities. Participants are welcome to attend any or all of the programs as their families' schedules allow. The Union Public Library Book Club meeting will not meet during the month of August. The book club will meet next on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. to discuss "Pachinko" by Min Jin Lee. Copies of the book are now available at Union Library during regular business hours on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.. All are welcome to join in the discussion.

Read to Rosie, a certified therapy dog, on Friday, Aug. 24th between 9:30-10:30 a.m. Children read one-on-one to Rosie for 10 minutes.  Children are introduced to the wonderful, magical world of books in a positive and unique way. This is a great opportunity to gain skills and confidence reading aloud. In no time at all, the reading skills of most children will improve. The Friends of Westport Library are collecting donations (books, DVDs, CDs) through Aug. 31 for the annual September book sale. Stop by during library hours to fill our bin in the foyer. Please note that VHS tapes, cassettes, magazines, textbooks, Readers Digest Condensed books and encyclopedias are not acceptable.
