Metrowater has dug up roads for laying pipelines

The condition of most of the roads in Ayanambakkam is in a shambles because of the slow progress of the sewage pipeline laying work.

The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has been executing sewage pipeline work in the Thiruverkadu Municipality.

With most of the roads in Ayanambakkam having been dug up for laying the pipeline, residents are facing severe hardship. Important stretches such as Kamarajar Street have become unusable.

A.J. Paul, a resident of Kamaraj Street, Maduravoyal, said many roads had remained unmotorable after the Metrowater dug them up for laying sewage pipelines. Adding to the problem, Tangedco also started digging the road for installing underground cables.

Kamarajar Street has a private school with hundreds of students.

With rain lashing the city in the past couple of days, the road has become slushy and slippery.

While the officials of CMWSSB could not be reached, a senior Tangedco official said Kamarajar Street was dug up for installing underground cable for providing an additional power source from Thiruverkadu to the Ponniamman Nagar sub-station.

The official said the work would be completed in two days, and the road would be restored.
