Held over the weekend, Rosemary Jacob’s My Cup of Tea made its Chennai debut with 18 brands from various parts of India.
Although the show is over, if you’re curious about the companies featured, all of whom are fairly active on social media, here’s a quick round up. This was Rosemary’s first Chennai event, after earlier editions in Kochi and Bangalore. “I always provide guidance to my close friends on what to buy, where, and from whom. I find them something unique almost always... it is my cup of tea,” says Rosemary, explaining the unusual title of her pop-up.
Intent on creating a collection that was different in a sea of pop-ups, she said she decided to focus on Indian textile heritage and sustainable fashion.
“I am keen to popularise the concept of zero waste and waste-free living. So, I invited Trayam Ayurveda from Mysore and Bare Necessities from Bengaluru, both brands that believe in creating products that care for the environment as much as they care for us,” said Rosemary.
Designers from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore and Mysore who work predominantly with organic cotton and Indian handwoven fabrics, presented their creations.
Love The World Today, a kidswear brand by sister Dipna and Dipti that specialises in socially and environmentally responsible clothing for kids, showcased their latest collection, titled Once Upon a Cotton Cloud. The collection featured hand woven organic cotton and herbal dye. Similarly, The Summer House, from Bengaluru, used organic cotton with natural dye for its line of women’s wear.
The collections were not trend specific. While fabrics and embroidery were largely Indian, some silhouettes, cuts and styling were Western.
In the jewellery section, Ahmedabad-based Aditi Bhatt’s colourful, hand enamelled jewellery, inspired by Indian flowers and buildings, stood out.
Participating in such a show for the first time was Maria Maxy, a homemaker from Kochi who does crochet and applique in her spare time. She showcased jewellery, hair clips, cushion cover and wall hangings under the name Knotty Maria.
“Everything we bring to this show is handcrafted and handmade. I intend to take this show to six other cities in the next one year, thereby create awareness on sustainable lifestyle and fashion,” says Rosemary.
