Vajpayee's death: No additional holiday in Maharashtra on Friday

MUMBAI: Maharashtra government has not declared a public holiday on Thursday as a mark of respect for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee since it is already a holiday on account of Pateti, the Parsi new year.

The BJP-led state government has not declared an additional holiday as part of the national mourning due to Vajpayee's death today, the official said here on Thursday.

As Friday is Pateti, a public holiday, no additional holiday has been declared, he said.

A seven-day state mourning has been announced by the Centre as a mark of respect to the former prime minister who died away after prolonged illness.

During this period, the national flag will be flown at half mast throughout the country, the official said.
